Your health is your most important asset

About Me

What started me on my path to become a health coach? In 1988 I developed MCS, Multiple Chemical Sensitivities (aka Environmental Sensitivities). I was told it was in my head by mainstream doctors. I knew I was physically damaged. I also knew I would I have to find another way to heal. I have written a book about my recovery, My Journey Back to Health, Living with Multiple Chemical Sensitivities. I have recovered more of my health than I thought was possible. I changed my diet, used quality supplements and made some major lifestyle changes. I believe we can all reclaim our health.

I graduated from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition where I learned innovative coaching methods, practical lifestyle management techniques, and a variety of dietary theories.  I am also a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (NTP) and a Certified GAPS Practitioner (CGP).  I completed the Blood Sugar and Insulin Resistance Mastery Course with Metabolic Healing. I am now a Certified Gluten Practitioner. This is Dr. Tom O'Bryan's course. Dr. O'Bryan is one of the leaders in the field of gluten and its' effects on autoimmune conditions.

I am currently studying with Dr. Ritamarie Loscalzo. What I learned in Dr. Loscalzo's course saved my daughter's life. I have spoken at a number of Dr. Ritamarie Loscalzo's events.

During the summer of 2015 my daughter had a health crisis. We rushed her to the hospital for what became a three-week stay. She had a long list of ailments. These included acute renal failure, multiple infections and she was admitted with a blood sugar level of 625. We were shocked. She isn't diabetic. She was diagnosed with DKA, diabetic ketoacidosis. Once she woke up and started eating again I took over providing her meals so that her body was getting food that actually contained nutrients. I knew that she would return to college in the fall and we had the summer to get her strong again. She left the hospital on insulin and with the guidance of her endocrinologist is weaning off insulin. On her own she has joined a gym and works out most days. She did return to school in the fall and graduated in May. Once again I have seen firsthand what proper food and quality supplements can to do help someone heal.

Since my daughter's illness my focus has shifted to diabetes, especially the caregivers of diabetics. Caregivers of diabetics lose sleep on a regular basis. Some are up during the night to do regular blood glucose testing. We are also up during the night when the alarms on the insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors go off alerting us to a high or low. Caregivers need support to keep up with the ever changing life with diabetes. I am here to help you with your selfcare so that you can continue to be there for the diabetic(s) that depend upon you.

I was recently told, "I have no idea what all those letters after your name mean." I will explain them here.

A Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (NTP) is certified by the Nutritional Therapy Association, Inc. and trained to evaluate a client's nutritional needs, support normal function and identify nutritional deficiencies. A Nutritional Therapy Practitioner makes recommendations of dietary change, lifestyle considerations and nutritional supplementation based on information from the client and other assessments.  A Nutritional Therapy Practitioner is not trained to provide medical diagnosis or treatment of any medical or pathological condition, illness, injury or disease. No recommendation or comment made by a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner should be construed as being medical advice or diagnosis.

A Certified GAPS (Gut and Psychology Syndrome) Practitioner advises clients who want to follow the GAPS' diet and develops a personal nutritional protocol for the client. GAPS is the program developed by Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride to heal her son's autism. (Think leaky gut.)

An Integrative Nutrition Health Coach is a supportive mentor and wellness authority who works with clients to help them feel their best through food and lifestyle changes. Instead of prescribing one diet or way of exercising, Integrative Nutrition Health Coaches tailor individualized wellness programs to meet their clients' needs.

I am also a Certified Gluten Practitioner (CGP). The Certified Gluten Practitioner Program is taught by Internationally recognized speaker and workshop leader, Dr. Thomas O'Bryan. The training is an in-depth understanding of the causes of Gluten Sensitivity, Celiac Disease and Autoimmune issues relating to gluten. Certified Gluten Practitioners educate clients about gluten sensitivities and ways to get rid of gluten and im
prove their health.

I hope this helps. Have a healthy day!
